The Origins of Good Friday:

The origins of Good Friday can be traced back to the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion as narrated in the New Testament of the Bible. According to Christian tradition, Jesus, who Christians believe to be the Son of God, was arrested by the Roman authorities following the Last Supper, betrayed by one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot. He was then subjected to a series of trials, during which he was accused of blasphemy and sedition against the Roman Empire.

Despite finding no fault in Jesus, Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, bowed to the pressure of the crowd and sentenced Jesus to death by crucifixion. He was brutally flogged and forced to carry his cross to the hill of Golgotha, where he was nailed to the cross and left to die alongside two criminals.

Why We Celebrate Good Friday:

While the word "celebrate" may seem paradoxical given the somber nature of Good Friday, Christians commemorate this day as a pivotal moment in salvation history. It serves as a reminder of the immense love of God and the hope that springs forth from Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Good Friday prompts believers to contemplate the depth of God's love and the significance of Jesus' sacrifice. It is a day to repent, seek forgiveness, and renew one's commitment to living a life in accordance with the teachings of Jesus.

Observing Good Friday:

As we observe Good Friday, let us remember the depth of God's love and the incredible gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. May this day be a source of comfort, inspiration, and renewal for all who commemorate it.

As we observe Good Friday, and its somber occasion, it is also a time of profound hope and renewal, as believers reflect on the love of God and the promise of salvation through Jesus' resurrection. As we observe Good Friday, may we be reminded of the immense sacrifice made on our behalf and strive to live lives worthy of such a gift.
